When Brendan O’Keefe announced his next Cuticle record would be titled in the spirit of previous 4-word acronym masterpieces – RHCP’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik, what’s her name’s Love Angel Music Baby, etc – we were instantly on board. Add Mother Rhythm Earth Memory to this illustrious tradition.

From minute one it’s evident this is a new Cuticle creature – gone is the compressed, post-noise overdrive of Confectioner’s Beats, replaced by gleaming fiber optic resonance. “Liquid Crystal Drink (Pour My Dream)” sets the mood: synthetic funk swathed in echo keys and computer-smeared vocoder submerged in a gurgling pool of circuitry, like Herbie Hancock teleported to the Tron mainframe. Elsewhere there’s cyber-jungle dub (“Document Leak”), waterfall temple healing music (“Trickle”), even a fucking Baronic Wall cover (“Night Of Romance”). A mesmerizing outpost of sonic schisms and visions from one of the weirder colonies in the hidden confederation of alien electronics.
